Trauma & EMDR therapy for individuals & couples

Helping You Heal What Still Hurts — and Reconnect with What Matters Most

Life can leave its mark on us. Sometimes those marks come from moments we can easily name as trauma — a loss, an assault, a betrayal, or a critical incident that changed how we see the world. Other times, they come from smaller moments that quietly shape how we think, feel, and relate to others.

Whether your pain stems from a single event or years of accumulated stress, you deserve relief. You deserve the freedom to feel fully alive again — to grow, to love deeply, and to be at peace with yourself and your story.

Understanding Trauma — Big or Small

Trauma isn’t defined only by how “big” or visible an experience seems. It’s about how deeply it affected you.

You may have faced:

  • Years of serving others in a high-stress or helping profession

  • A difficult or unsafe childhood

  • Emotional, physical, or sexual abuse

  • Humiliation, betrayal, or ongoing criticism

  • Compassion fatigue or burnout

Your trauma might be what’s often called a “big T” trauma — or a “small t” trauma — but both can leave lasting imprints that affect how you think, feel, and connect.

The good news is: trauma doesn’t have to define you. Healing is possible.

EMDR: Helping the Past Become the Past

One of the most effective approaches I use in therapy is EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is an evidence-based method approved by the Veterans Administration as a leading treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

But EMDR doesn’t just help with trauma. It also helps with:

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Emotional or “success” blocks

  • Grief or loss

  • Performance enhancement for professionals and athletes

EMDR allows the brain to finish processing experiences that got “stuck.” It helps you store those memories as something that happened rather than something you’re still living through.

In simple terms: EMDR helps the past finally feel like the past.

I’m Certified in EMDR and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training, which means I not only use this method in therapy but also help train and mentor other therapists in its use.

When Trauma Touches a Relationship

Relationships can be messy — even in the healthiest of seasons. When trauma is part of a couple’s story, it can add layers of distance, misunderstanding, and pain that feel hard to navigate.

With over 30 years of experience helping couples reconnect, I integrate Gottman Method Couples Therapy with trauma-informed care to help partners rebuild trust, safety, and emotional intimacy.

Whether the trauma happened long before you met or has emerged through the stress of work, parenting, or service, you and your partner can learn to understand each other again — and to heal, together.

A Space for Healing and Growth

In our work together, you can expect:

  • Compassion and safety — no judgment, no rush

  • Clear tools to help you calm your body and regulate emotions

  • Evidence-based techniques that create lasting change

  • Hope, humor, and honest conversation about real-life challenges

Healing is rarely a straight line — but it’s always possible. You’ve already done the hard part by deciding it’s time to reach out.

Take the Next Step

If you’re ready to move beyond the pain of the past and create space for joy, connection, and peace, I’d be honored to walk with you.
